Moneta, IA (KICD)--A head on pickup versus van accident in western Clay County in the mid morning hours Monday ends with four in the Hospital.
At around 10:20 Clay County Sheriff's Officers were called to the 3500 mile of 100th Avenue just north of Moneta. Preliminary investigation shows that 60-year-old Billy Bass of Sheldon was heading north on 100th in a 1986 Ford F-250 pickup pulling a trailer loaded with scrap iron. 28-year-old Kristin Biery of Sutherland was coming in the opposite direction in a 200 Chevy Venture van owned by the Pride Group of LeMars. Biery crossed the centerline and hit the pickup head on. Both vehicles were sent to the east ditch with the trailer remaining partially on the roadway.
Both drivers and a passenger in each vehicle, 66-year-old burton Johnson of Sheldon and 57-year-old Gary Cooper of Primghar, were taken to the Spencer Hospital. Bass and Cooper were last listed in fair to serious condition with lower extremity injuries described as incapacitating but not life threatening. Biery and Johnson were life flighted to Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls and were in serious condition with upper torso and head injuries described as incapacitating but not life threatening.
Investigation is ongoing with the focus being the cause for Biery to cross into oncoming traffic. Traffic charges are pending.
The Iowa State Patrol, O' Brien County Sheriff's Office, Spencer, Everly, and hartley Fire and Rescue, Spencer Hospital Ambulance, Clay County Emergency Management, Johnson County Sheriff's Office, and North Liberty Police all assisted.
