Spencer, IA (KICD)--The IGL Red Cross will be hosting a pair of blood drives next week in Spencer.
Interim Director Cindy Voss says they need to replenish the blood supply "the need is constant but as we come into the winter months the driving conditions, holidays, and flu season start to affect us. Give the gift that does not cost anything but time, give the gift of blood."
Blood is a perishable product that can only come from generous volunteer blood donors. Blood is needed for patients receiving transplants, surgeries, cancer treatments, premature babies, burn victims, accidents and blood disorders. Every two seconds someone needs blood, while only 38% of the population is eligible to give blood, and of that 38% only a fraction, about 8% actually donate blood.
The blood drives will take place this Monday from 1-7 p.m. and Tuesday from 11-5 at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer with walk in and new donors welcome . Contact the IGL Red Cross Office for more information or to find out how to set up an appointment.
