Spencer, IA (KICD)--Two cars hit a tractor pulling a farm implement Friday night east of Spencer on Highway 18.
Clay County sheriff's officers say 20 year old Seth Small was driving the tractor west over a bridge. The farm implement known as a "ripper" was hit by a car driven by 59 year old Llewellyn Brown from Algona.
Authorities say Small got off the tractor to check on Brown Small was hit by another car driven by 64 year old John Lee of Graettinger. The impact with threw Small over the bridge and onto the ground below.
Spencer firefighters, Dickens fire and rescue along with State Troopers and Spencer Hospital ambulance crews helped at the scene.
All three suffered injuries in the accident. Small and Lee were taken to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Fall. Brown was treated and released from the Spencer Hospital.
Deputies say the accident is still under investigation.
Spencer, IA (KICD)--The Clay County Sheriff’s Office are called to M-50 and B-24 to a report of a two car accident at 4:42 Saturday afternoon.
A caller on the 911 line said one of the cars was attempting to leave the accident scene. They said a passerby that stopped to assist was then stuck by the car attempting to leave. It was found that 91-year-old Lois Michelson of Spencer was trying to make a left hand turn onto B24 in a 2001 Buick Century when she hit a 1998 Chevy Cavalier driven by 23-year-old Jesse Clark of Spencer. Witnesses said that when Clark found out that the police were called he got back in the car and attempted to leave.
The passerby, identified as Joseph Beck of Wasille, Alaska, tried to get Clark to stop his vehicle and Beck was then drug across the intersection were he then fell off the car. Clark then stopped the vehicle on the north side of the intersection. Beck was taken by Spencer Ambulance to the hospital were he was treated for a minor head injury with Clark arrested for driving while revoked and reckless driving. He was held in the Clay County jail on a $1,000 bond. Michelson was cited for an improper left turn.
Those assisting include Spencer Police Department, Spencer Fire and Rescue, Dickens Fire and Rescue, and the Spencer Ambulance.
The accident remains under investigation.
Highland Park, IA (KICD)--A Friday night accident injures a Rock Valley woman.
The Iowa State Patrol says 23-year-old Dana Davelaar was heading south on K-30 in a 2006 Pontiac and was being passed by a 1994 Cadillac Sedan Deville driven by 27-year-old Michael Monaghan of Alton in a no passing zone. Monaghan hist his brakes as he was finishing his pass and was struck in the rear passenger side by Davelaar. Both drivers then turned off the road and into a residential driveway.
Davelaar sustained non incapacitating injuries and her car had a $2,000 damage estimate. Monaghan was cited for passing contrary to markings. His car had a $500 damage estimate
Spencer, IA (KICD)--A call about a possible drunk driver led to the arrest of a Spencer man Friday evening.
Clay County sheriff's officers say they were sent to the intersection of county road M-38 and 360th Street around 5:40 PM. A 9-1-1 caller told dispatchers a white Jeep drove through the "T" intersection, struck a road sign, pulled back onto the road and continued south.
Authorities say the caller reported.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A Friday afternoon hit and run lands an Omaha man in the Buena Vista County jail.
Police were told that a white van had struck a semi truck. A witness followed the fleeing van to the parking lot of Mexicano II. 51-year-old Marcelino Morales-Gutierrez allegedly gave authorities a fake driver’s license from Mexico in the name of Julian Morales.
After investigation Gutierrez was charged with tampering with records, no driver's license, and no insurance. He is being held on a detainer by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The semi truck which was struck did not report any damage.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--An out of control inmate at the Buena Vista County jail has to be tasered.
Storm Lake Police were directed to the maximum security area of the jail where they found 23-year-old Louis Coronell Storm Lake in the cell which had been damaged. He allegedly refused to comply with any orders and had one hand wrapped in a towel and was holding a pencil in the other hand. Following multiple commands which were disregarded police subdued Coronel with the use of a Taser.
Coronel was taken to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released. He was then transferred back to the county jail.
Coronel was charged with interference with official acts. Additional charges are pending a sheriff’s department investigation.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--Storm Lake Police file a number of charges following a Saturday morning traffic stop.
The driver, Esdras Jacob Gonzalez, was belligerent and refused to identify himself to officers. He was identified after being taken to the Buena Vista County jail where he physically resisted officers and had to be restrained.
Following an investigation police charged Gonzalez with OWI 2nd offense, interference with official acts, no driver's license, no insurance, disobey a stop sign, and improper lane usage. He was booked into the county jail on a $3,500 cash bond.
