Area Accidents & Arrests

Rembrandt, IA (KICD)--A car versus semi accident on Highway 71 in Buena Vista County Tuesday morning lands a Peterson man in the hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol says 53-year-old Timothy Ihry was heading south on 71 in a 1983 Cadillac Deville when he started to make a left turn into a farm drive at 4748 Highway 71 shortly before 7:00 a.m. His car was then struck by a passing 1985 International semi driven by 43-year-old Dwayne Hakeneis of Sheldon. This sent the car into the east ditch and semi into the west ditch.

Ihry was extricated by mechanical means and taken to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center by their ambulance crew with what are being described as non-incapacitating injuries. His car had a damage estimate of $1,000. Hakeneis was cited for unsafe passing. The semi sustained $1,500 in damage.
