Project Liberty Field Day

Emmetsburg, IA (KICD)--Poet Biorefining of Emmetsburg played host to hundreds during their Project Liberty Field Day today.

POET CEO Jeff Broin told KICD News "what we are trying to do today is show that there is an oppoartuity to collect a waste product, corn cobs and corn stover, which are just left on the land to deteriorate and take those and turn them into energy."

Broin says Project Liberty will produce 25 million gallons of ethanol per year from corn cobs once in full operation. Broins says that "will take about 400,000 acres of corn cobs or about 770 tons a day."

The target date for startup is late 2011. POET’s pilot-scale plant in Scotland, South Dakota is already producing cellulosic ethanol at a rate of approximately 20,000 gallons per year.
