Hull, IA (KICD)--A Hull man is arrested after a short pursuit with a Sioux County Sheriff's Deputy.

Shortly before 9:00 Wednesday night 25-year-old Tyler VandeGriend was stopped after investigation into a report of a possible intoxicated driver heading west on Highway 18 into Hull. When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle it continued for a block and a half before stopping at a residence. VandeGriend got out of the car and entered the home. He initially refused to cooperate with the officers and was eventually arrested.

VandeGriend was arrested for Operating while intoxicated, 2nd offense, and Interference with official acts.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--An investigation into a high speed, fiery, alcohol induced crash by Storm Lake Police and the Iowa has concluded.

Authorities say a one car accident took place at the intersection of West 5th Street and Abner Bell Road in the early hours of July 18th. The vehicle burst into flames and the driver, identified as Chomthong “Chom” Thammavongsa, was trapped in the vehicle. A Storm Lake Police Officer who first arrived on scene successfully rescued Thammavongsa, from the burning vehicle. Thammavongsa was subsequently transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center and later airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Sioux City with severe injuries.

It is alleged that Thammavongsa was operating the vehicle while intoxicated, that he was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, that he was operating the vehicle at a speed of 67mph in a 45mph zone, and that he was not wearing a seatbelt. The investigation also concludes that the cause of the accident was a combination of high speed and alcohol.

These findings have been submitted to the Buena Vista County Attorney’s Office for disposition.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--An incident at a Burger King in Storm Lake led police to file charges against a Marathon man.

Authorities say officers were sent to the restaurant around 8:30 Wednesday evening.

Investigators say a woman told them she'd been allegedly harassed by her ex-boyfriend while she was at Burger King. Police talked with 26 year old Marvin Cortez and eventually charged him with harassment.

Cortez is being held in the Buena Vista county Jail on a 300 dollar cash bond.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A Storm Lake woman is jailed after investigation by Police into an identity theft.

Police were told by the victim that someone was working at the Sara Lee Plant in Storm Lake allegedly using their identity. After investigation 34-year-old Maria Salud Magan was taken into custody.

Authorities allege that Magana used the name Mary Jane Rangel to obtain employment at the Sara Lee Plant. During the investigation police seized a Minnesota ID card and social security card with a false name on it.

She was charged Tuesday with identity theft - a class D felony and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $5,000 cash bond.

Archer, IA (KICD)--Two women suffer possible injuries in a Monday morning accident at the intersection of 400th Street and Nettle Avenue in O'Brien County.

Sheriff's Officers say 60-year-old Nancy Penning of Hospers failed to stop at a stop sign when she struck a car driven by 57-year-old Donna Horkey in the intersection. Penning felt a rumble strip but was unable to see the stop sign due to heavy fog at the time of the accident. Both drivers suffered possible injuries.

The vehicles, listed as a 2004 and 2005 Chevy, sustained $4,000 and $8,000 in damage.

The mishap took place at 7:15 Monday morning.
