Spencer REAP Meeting

Spencer, IA (KICD)--The Iowa DNR is hosting a meeting for the nine county representation of the Resource Enhancement and Protection or REAP program Tuesday night in Spencer.

REAP Coordinator Ross Harrison says "it is the people's opportunity to take part in their natural resource destiny." Those who attend will elect five local residents to come to the REAP congress in Des Moines in January.

Over $250 million has been spent through the REAP program over 20 years with more than $18 million coming to the nine county region. The funding comes through gaming revenues and license plate sales.

Clay County Conservation Director Dan Heissel says "the Parker Historical Society has gotten $17,000 for building repairs, the city of Spencer has received multiple $125,000 grants for their Little Sioux Recreational Trail, Stolley Park has gotten a $251,000 grant, and Clay County Conservation recently received a $90,000 to do a land acquisition."

Tuesday night's meeting will take place at the Clay County Regional Events Center from 7-9 p.m.
