Area Fatal Accidents



Sheldon, IA (KICD)--A Sheldon man is dead following a Sioux County ATV accident.

Iowa State Patrol records state that 62-year-old Rodney VanMeeteren was going south in the east ditch of Log Avenue. His 2007 Honda ATV rolled as he exited the ditch pinning the him beneath the ATV. VanMeeteren was pronounced dead at the Sanford Sheldon Hospital.

The accident was reported by a passerby at 3:00 Friday afternoon. The time of the accident is unknown at this time

Sibley, IA (KICD)--A Minnesota man is dead following a Friday afternoon accident in Osceola County.

Sheriff's Officers say 36-year-old Lloyd Wynia of Fulda was heading north on Highway 60 on a 1982 Yamaha Motorcycle. He approached the intersection of 130th Street when a dog ran out of the ditch. Wynia tried to brake but ended up hitting the dog and losing control. He was pronounced dead at the Osceola Community Hospital.

Sibley Ambulance, Sibley Fire & Rescue, and Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene. The accident took place at 3:30 Friday afternoon.

Worthington, MN (KICD)--Two from Worthington are dead following a Nobles County accident shortly after 6:00 Friday night at the intersection of County Road 35 and Highway 264.
The Minnesota State Patrol says 72-year-old David Vonholtum was heading west on 35 in a 2005 Suzuki XL7. At this time 47-year-old Dennis Schroeder of Tracy, MInnesota was southbound on 264 in a 2007 Chevy Silverado pulling a camper trailer. Both vehicles collided at the intersection .

Vonholtum and his son Stephen Vonholtum were found dead at the scene. Schroeder, his son, and a 4-year-old friend were treated and released from the Sanford Hospital in Worthington with minor injuries. His wife Dawn sustained a broken hand.

The two vehicles were totalled and the camper had moderate damage.

The Nobles County Sheriff, Round Lake Fire and Rescue, and Worthington Ambulance assisted on scene.
