Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A Labor day accident in Buena Vista County resulted in severe injuries to an Oto woman.
Buena Vista County sheriff's officers say they were called out to the scene just north of 660th Street on Highway 71 around 12:10 PM. Storm Lake firefighters and ambulance crews were also dispatched to help.
Authorities say a car driven by 35 year old Steve Rexroat from Storm Lake was turning into a driveway when struck from behind by a pick up driven by Keith Allman from Oto. Allman was pulling a camper.
Sixty six year old Nancy Vanderham was trapped in the Allman vehicle and rescuers had to use the jaws of life to get her out. She was taken to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center and later flown to Mercy Medical in Sioux City with severe injuries.
Rexroat was also taken to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center by ambulance.
Deputies say the accident is still under investigation.
Primghar, IA (KICD)--A Primghar man suffers minor injuries in a Friday evening OWI accident.
The O'Brien County Sheriff's Office says the accident occurred a third of a mile north of 450th Street on Taft Avenue at 11:15 p.m. 53-year-old Brian McDonald was heading north on Taft in a 1999 Chevy Blazer when his front passenger side tire went out. He lost control, crossed the centerline, and entered the west ditch before going through a fenceline and into a cornfield before coming to a stop.
McDonald was arrested for OWI 2nd offense.
Laurens, IA (KICD)--Two people from Laurens face drug charges after a seach by Pocahontas county authorities.
Sheriff Bob Lampe says 23 year old Harlan Johnsen and 18 year old Faith Myer were arrested on Monday.
Investigators say the search turned up over a quarter pound of marijuana and numerous prescription and controlled substance pills.
Both are charged with a drug tax stamp violation -- which is a class D felony - possession of marijuana and 14 counts of possessing prescription medications.
Johnsen and Myer are being held on more than 25 thousand dollars bond.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--An assist for a man with a flat tire by Strom Lake Police leads to a charge of OWI and child endangerment.
Upon speaking with the driver, identified as 21-year-old Daniel Yanez of Storm Lake, police allege he was intoxicated over three times the legal limit. He had a three year old child in the car with him who was taken into protective custody. An investigation alleges that Yanez had been drinking at his residence and he left the house with his three year old son in the vehicle and left his two year old son asleep at the house unattended. He traveled approximately three blocks before reportedly striking a curb which caused his tire to go flat.
Police responded to Yanez’s residence located at 704 Bradford Street and located the sleeping two year child and took that child in protective custody also.
The Iowa Department of Human Services responded and placed both of the children into emergency foster care.
Yanez was charged with OWI and Child Endangerment. He was booked into Buena Vista County jail on a $3,000 cash bond. Additional charges are possible as the investigaiton continues.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--Storm Lake Police are dispatched to 701A West 9th Street Sunday night in reference to multiple calls of someone yelling and furniture being thrown at that location.
Once inside Police found 17-year-old male who allegedly started to shout at and attempt to charge officers. Persons in the house tried to hold the teen but he broke free and attacked the officers. Officers attempted to take the subject into custody but he resisted and reportedly fought with police at which time he was subdued when police deployed a taser.
An investigation determined that the juvenile became enraged in the house over a card game and began throwing furniture. He was taken to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center where he was treated for exposure to a taser. He was released and charged with Interference With Official Acts. He is being held at the Youth Detention Facility in Cherokee with a court date pending.
The case has been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
Spencer, IA (KICD)--A Hartley man is arrested by the Clay County Sheriff's Office last week on a pair of arrest warrants.
22-year-old Joe Engelkes had warrants in his name for assault causing serious injury - a class D felony, and violation of probation on the original charges of 3rd degree burglary and aiding and abetting.
Engelkes is currently being held in Clay County jail on a $15,000 cash or surety bond.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A Storm Lake teen is arrested on a pair of tattooing charges by Storm Lake Police.
The investigation started after a a report from a mother on an incident where her 14-year-old daughter received a tattoo from a juvenile male in Storm Lake. It was found that 17-year-old Cody Boger did the deed with a homemade tattoo gun. A search of 318 Lake Avenue #A led to the seizure of a homemade tattoo gun, ink, and needles.
Following an investigation on Monday evening police arrested Boger and charged him with Tattooing Without a Permit and Tattooing a Minor. He was processed and released to a parent pending a court date.
Peterson, IA (KICD)--Clay County Deputies are paged out last Thursday to a domestic disturbance .
A Peterson woman called and said her husband had thrown her up against the wall and was refusing to let her leave with the kids. After investigation 29-year-old Ryan Peters was booked into Clay County jail on a charge of domestic abuse assault-enhanced serious. The charge was upgraded due to Peters having a prior conviction of domestic abuse assault on his record.
Peters was held in anticipation of an appearance before a judge.
Spencer, IA (KICD)--A Spencer sex offender is arrested following investigation by the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
It was found that 30-year-old Michael Seller was not living at his registered address of 101 East 25th Street Apartment #1 and did not notify authorities of his new address. He was found in the 300 block of East 2nd Street last Thursday.
Sellers was booked into Clay County jail on a class D felony charge of failure to register as a sex offender. He was held in anticipation of an appearance before a judge.
