Spencer, IA (KICD)--A three vehicle Thursday afternoon accident in Spencer sends three to the hospital.
Spencer Police says the accident happened at 3:15 p.m. on Highway 71 over 1,700 feet south of 370th Street. 35-year-old Carla Mattice of St. Joseph, Missouri says she was heading south near John Deere in a 2009 Chevy car. She saw a 2008 Dodge Ram driven by 32-year-old Kevin Braden of Collins, Missouri pulling a trailer partially sticking out on the road as he was making a turn into the parking lot. 89-year-old Gladys McMillin of Spencer was coming in the opposite direction in a 2004 Buick Park Avenue when she tried to swerve but struck the back of the trailer. Mattice tried to swerve but was hit by McMillin. Braden told authorities he though he had more time to make the turn.
McMillin was taken to Spencer Hospital by Spencer Ambulance with non-incapacitating injuries to her shoulder. Her passenger, 92-year-old Lester McMillin of Spencer, complained of right elbow and bicep pain and was taken to Spencer Hospital by ambulance. Her car sustained $6,000 of disabling damage.
Records list Mattice as uninjured althought she was taken by ambulance to Spencer Hospital. Her damage estimate was $5,000..
Braden was cited for failure to yield upon making a left turn. His damage estimate came to $300.
Spencer, IA (KICD)--A Terril man is arrested by Spencer Police late Thursday night.
Authorities say 32-year-old Brandon Bucholz faces charges of aggravated assault and possession of marijuana. He was processed and placed in the Clay County jail.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A 911 hang up call brings out Storm lake Police Thursday night.
Upon arrival at 900 East 4th Street Apartment #1 it was found 57-year-old Edward Shakir allegedly physically assaulted 40-year-old Everlena Johnson-Smith. The woman left and armed herself with a claw hammer and allegedly forced her way back into the home and tried to hit the man with the hammer.
Shakir resisted arrest. After being subdued he was charged with domestic assault, violation of a no contact order, and interference with official acts. He was held in Buena Vista County jail without bond.
Johnson-Smith was charged with 1st degree burglary - a class B felony, a class D felony charge of going armed with intent, and violation of a no contact order. She was held in jail on a cash bond of $30,300. Neither of the Storm Lake residents sustained serious injuries.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A Storm Lake man is in jail after an alleged domestic assault Thursday night.
Storm Lake police say they were called to an apartment in the 1400 block of North Seneca Street around 10:30.
Investigators learned 28 year old Aaron Long had reportedly physically assaulted a woman at the the home.
She -- police say -- jumped from a second story balcony to get away from Long. The woman hurt her shoulder and had to be taken to the Buena Vista Regional Medical center where she was treated and released.
Long refused to open the door of the apartment when officers asked to talk with him. Authorities eventually got inside the apartment and arrested Long. He's being held without bond in the Buena Vista County jail.
Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)--Two from Spirit Lake face drug possession charges following a Thursday night search by Spirit Lake Police of 2607 Erie Avenue Apartment #3.
the search turned up a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and several items of drug paraphernalia. 23-year-old Ryan Bjorklund and 22-year-old Tiffany Alexander were each charged with possession of both.
More arrests are possible as the investigation continues.
Dunnell, MN (KICD)--Authorities in Martin County, Minnesota have charges pending against against a Dunnell man.
Sheriff's officers say they along with Dunnell police chief Alan Helmers were sent to a home in the 200 block of North Olson Avenue at 4:46 p.m. Wednesday. Callers reported a loud verbal argument between a father and son at the home.
People in the house refused to respond to requests to check on the welfare of the people involved. Authorities put a High Risk Entry Team on standby while they made repeated attempts to make contact.
Officers say 41 year old Phillip Horswell came out of the house shortly before 9 PM, went to his pickup. He allegedly loaded a shotgun and fired a round in the direction of authorities, then went back into the house.
The HEAT officers forced their way into the home and arrested Horswell. His 72 year old father was taken to the Fairmont Medical Center to be checked.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A Storm Lake man is facing felony charges after allegedly making threats at a fast food restaurant Thursday morning.
Police say 55 year old Roger Crawford went to the Taco John's on East Milwaukee Avenue and threatened to kill them and everyone in the city. Authorities allege Crawford threatened to use "mustard gas," then left the business on a bicycle.
Investigators found Crawford at his home in the 700 block of West 9th Street, but he refused to open the door or answer the telephone.
Officers got an arrest warrant and came back with the department's entry team. Crawford was taken into custody without incident.
He's charged with terrorist threats -- a class D felony -- and was jailed on a 5 thousand dollar cash bond.
