Area Accidents & Arrests

Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)--Five are injured in a late Sunday crash near the intersection of 280th Avenue and 175th Street on the south side of Lily Lake.

The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office says 31-year-old Terry Brown of Ruthven was eastbound on 175th in a 1998 Ford Expedition. Brown lost control at a curve and rolled.

A search of the area turned up one of the injured people. Brown had fled the scene. He was located Tuesday and charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, reckless driving, failure to maintain control, and no insurance - accident related.

24-year-old Jonathan Sutherland of Ruthven, was flown to Sioux Falls with incapacitating injuries. 21-year-old Katie Flanegan of Emmetsburg was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional. Brown suffered non incapacitating injuries and two others had possible injuries.

The vehicle, registered to Eric Jordan of Spencer, had a $15,000 damage estimate.

Those assisting include Spirit Lake and Arnolds Park Police, Superior and Arnolds Park Fire, Spirit Lake and Terril Ambulance, and Bob's Tow and Repair of Spirit Lake.

The incident occurred at 11:45 Sunday evening.

Ocheyedan, IA (KICD)--An Ocheyedan man is jailed on assault charges by the Osceola County Sheriff's Office Wednesday.

Authorities say the two counts of assault causing bodily injury have been filed against 37-year-old Thimothy Bales. The charges stem from a report of an incident in which Bales allegedly assaulted a pair of minor juveniles at his Ocheyedan home.

Bales was brought to the Osceola County Jail where he posted a $2,000 cash bond and was released.
