The Palo Alto County Sheriff's Office says Val Morton of Clear Lake was heading west on Highway 18 at 8:15 in a 2005 Dodge Durango. Daniel Lively of Mallard was coming in the opposite direction and lost control of his 2011 Ford Pickup on an ice covered section of the road. Lively crossed over the center line and was struck in the passenger side by the front of Morton's pickup. Both trucks ended up in the north ditch and shoulder of the highway.
Both drivers were taken to Palo Alto County Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Charges are pending further investigation.
Agencies assisting include Whittemore First Responders, the Cylinder Fire Department, and Palo Alto County Ambulance.
Emmetsburg, IA (KICD)--A West Bend man was injured in an OWI induced snowmobile accident last Thursday.
The Palo Alto County Sheriff's Office says Adam Wirtz struck a culvert while riding in a ditch in the 5300 mile of Highway 18. Wirtz was knocked out for about five minutes and was eventually helped home by his fellow snowmobilers.
Wirtz was taken by private vehicle to Palo Alto County Hospital where he was treated and released .
After investigation Wirtz was charged with OWI 1st offense.
