Eggs & Issues Recap

Spencer, IA (KICD)--A wide variety of topics were covered during the 2nd  Spencer Eggs & Issues forum of the 2013 legislative session.

House Representative Megan Hess of Spencer voiced displeasure over the recent decision to deny Clay County's request for funding to meet Medicaid obligations as the state moves towards a regional mental-health service delivery system.

State Senator David Johnson of Ocheyedan says that the Senate's proposal for property tax relief doesn't do enough.

House Representative Jeff Smith of Okoboji touched upon the state budget noting a $500 million chasm between House Republicans and Senate Democrats.
House Representative Dan Huseman of Aurelia says each of the proposed budgets fall under the 99 percent spending rule which means the state can legally spend up to 99 percent of state revenue.

All of the legislators on hand predicted a 2-3 percent allowable growth rate for schools.

Full replays of Eggs & Issues can be seen on SMU Cable Channel 2 at 1:00 Tuesday afternoon, 9:00 Thursday evening, and 8:30 Saturday morning.
