Okoboji 8-Plex Fire Source



Okoboji, IA (KICD)--Monday afternoon's fire at an 8-plex in Okoboji has been ruled accidental in nature.

A joint investigation by the State Fire Marshall’s office and Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue found the blaze to have originated in a utility closet in the apartment most damaged by the fire. Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth tells KICD News that cause remains undetermined.

Yungbluth says as cleanup continues the displaced residents should be able to occupy their homes soon.

Fire damage was severe to the apartment where the blaze originated with moderate damage to the above apartment. The remainder of the building's apartments sustained minor to moderate smoke damage. The preliminary damage estimate is $500,000.
