Spencer Council Recap

Spencer, IA (KICD)--The Spencer City Council last evening adopted the fiscal year 2014 city budget.

City Manager Bob Fagen tells KICD News that the levy rate of $11.83 per $1,000 of valuation is unchanged from the current year's asking.

Fagen says this year's budget checks in at approximately $26 million, which is down from previous years.

The council approved moving forward with the 2012 Spencer School Sidewalk Improvement Project.  This project part calls for construction of a portland cement concrete sidewalk along 4th Street SW from Grand Ave. to 4th Ave. SW and along 4th Ave. SW from Southmoor Drive to 11th Street SW/Highway 71. City Engineer Jim Thiesse says this project also includes some much needed updates on busy street crossings.

It was noted that the switch to the new recycling containers is on target to start sometime in the middle of May with the Southwest part of town being the first to take part.  An early April start is anticipated for the West Beltway project.
