SL City Hall Bond Issue

Spencer, IA (KICD)--Citizens in Spirit Lake will be asked to approve a bond issue to construct a new city hall this Tuesday.

City Administrator Mark Stevens tells KICD News that the city has scaled back the project following a failed vote in November of 2011.

The city is asking the public to approve a $1.335 million bond issue. Stevens says that the current city hall building is becoming almost "unworkable."

The proposal calls for the city to tear down the current structure and rebuild on that space. Stevens says they are looking to utilize current revenue streams that were previously dedicated to other bond issues and the construction of the YMCA to pay for the new city hall.

The majority of the funding for the proposed new city hall would come from local option sales tax monies. There will be no tax levy increases associated with the project.

Voting takes place this Tuesday from 7:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. at the Dickinson County Expo Building.
