Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A Cherokee woman who was jailed last week in connection with a series of forgeries throughout Storm Lake faces additional felony counts.
Last week 35-year-old Velia Cruz-Monsivais was jailed on a class D felony count of forgery after stealing checks from an individual and forging one at Northwest Bank.
Further investigation alleges that Monsivais stole a checkbook from a roommate and forged the stolen checks at businesses in Storm Lake and in Texas totaling more than $1,500.
On Wednesday evening Storm Lake Police charged Monsivais with a class B felony charge of On-Going Criminal Conduct and a class C felony count of Money Laundering.
Monsivais was held in Buena Vista County Jail on a $35,000 cash bond.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A pair of known Wal-Mart thieves have been arrested on theft charges.
On Tuesday afternoon Storm Lake Police were called to Wal-Mart and were were advised by store staff that two adults were being detained for allegedly attempting to exit the store with approximately $85.00 in groceries without paying.
Police identified the two as 35-year-old Michelle Huls and 33-year-old Anthony Wilbrecht. Both had been previously banned from all Wal-Mart Stores in connection with a series of alleged thefts from Wal-Mart Stores across northern Iowa.
Following an investigation police arrested both Huls and Wilbrecht. Huls was charged with Criminal Trespass and Theft 5th Degree and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $600 cash bond.
Wilbrecht was charged with Criminal Trespass and Theft 5th Degree. In addition police determined that Wilbrecht was wanted for a Probation Revocation in reference to Burglary. He was booked into the county jail and held without bond.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A Storm Lake man has been charged with four class D felony counts of forgery.
Storm Lake Police allege that approximately 50 personal checks were stolen from a residence last October. 33-year-old Ojulu Ogala has been charged in connection following an investigation into the forging of the stolen checks at two Casey’s Stores in Storm Lake on multiple occasions.
Ogala was arrested this past week for forgery and a probation violation charge out of Worthington. He remains in custody in the Buena Vista County Jail awaiting extradition to Minnesota.
The investigation is continuing.
Spencer, IA (KICD)--A Spencer woman avoids injury following a Friday morning accident.
28-year-old Katie Paulus told the Clay County Sheriff's Office that she was involved in an accident near the intersection of 200th Avenue and Highway 18 shortly after 7:30. Paulus says she drove over an ice patch and lost control of her 2002 Chevy Silverado K-2500 while attempting to pass a DOT plow. Paulus struck the rear of the plow and wound up in the south ditch of Highway 18.
