Child Care Resources & Referral Communications Specialist Katie Olson headed up the discussion of about 20 interested parties this week on what to do after the Estherville Child Care Center is closed by the Estherville Lincoln Central school district at the end of June. She says the center has a capacity for 105 children and there used to be a waiting list. Currently 41 kids are served.
Olson says the other large daycare center in Estherville, A Child's World, is currently at capacity with a waiting list. The group of community leaders is interested in getting another large daycare facility up and running as Olson notes that following the closing of the Estherville Child Care Center Emmet County will have 36 centers, preschools, or homes with 523 open spaces. The population of children ages 0-5 in Emmet County is 755.
The next meeting on this issue is slated for February 7th at the Estherville Library with a start time yet to be determined.
