Spencer City Manager Bob Fagen tells KICD News that there are basically two options for the building which sits across from the Police Station and is currently used for parking and storage. The first option centers on knocking down the building and turning it into paved parking. The cost estimate for that lands in the $80,000 range. The 2nd option is opening up the building for proposals to the public.
There are some paremeters including fixing the roof and making the exterior walls aesthetically pleasing. Fagen says that it's not all about the money as much as it is what the building would be used for.
Alex Pruitt with Goal Kick Sporting Goods expressed heavy interest in taking over the building as the t-shirt printing side of their business has taken off. Pruitt spoke of putting in a storefront and the possibility of murals on the north and south of the building if able to acquire the structure.
The council will set a public hearing for proposals at their next regular meeting for their February 4th session.
