Estherville, IA (KICD) -- The cause of a house fire in Estherville has been determined.

The Estherville Fire Department responded to the report of a fire at a residence at 9 Maple Heights Drive, around 9:45 Monday morning. The fire was reported by a contractor who was working in the area. When firefighters arrived on scene, the kitchen was fully engulfed in flames, and the fire also had spread up a wall into the attic.

The Wallingford Fire Department was called to assist with the blaze, which was brought under control and extinguished, a short time later. As a precaution, a hole was cut in the roof to make sure the attic area fire was out also.  Crews remained on scene for about two hours.

There were no injuries, as no one was in the residence at the time of the blaze. There was no damage estimate available, and the cause was determined to be electrical.  The home is owned and occupied by David Lair.
