The Iowa State Patrol said around 2:10 Wednesday afternoon, 72-year old Robert Klepper was driving a 2006 Ford Explorer eastbound on County Road B-63, west of West Bend.
For reasons unknown, the Explorer then left the road, to the south side, just north of the West Bend High School, striking a utility pole. and continuing eastward hitting landscape timbers, and coming to rest a short distance later.
Klepper was transported to the Palo Alto County Hospital by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.
Assisting in the incident was West Bend Fire & Rescue, Palo Alto County EMS, and Palo Alto County Sheriffs Office.
