Emmetsburg, IA (KICD)--A $2.8 million upgrade to the "West" elementary school in Emmetsburg has been approved by school board members.
Superintendent John Joynt tells KICD News that the addition of a transitional kindergarten program, a preschool, required expansion of talented and gift services, expansion of offerings to those at risk, and a 64 child 1st grade class has led to some space issues.
Upgrades to the lunchroom, kitchen, office area, gym, and library should fix a lot of the space issues. Joynt believes the $2.8 million price tag may be on the high side, but the district is trying to be conservative.
Bids are expected to be let in late March with groundwork to start in late May or June.
