Spencer, IA (KICD)--A ribbon cutting is held at all five campuses of Iowa Lakes Community College through their new telecommunications system.
The over $1 million project was spearheaded by over $498,000 through a USDA Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant. Institutional Advancement Director Jolene Rogers tells KICD News about the IP based system in comparison to the previous offering.
Rogers says that while students had the opportunity to take classes from other locations in the previous system, many did not not feel they had a "connection" to the instructor.
A number of rural area school districts are also a part of the new system.
High schools taking part include Algona, Armstrong-Ringsted, Clay Central Everly, Emmetsburg, Graettinger-Terril, Harris-Lake Park, North Sentral Kossuth, Ruthven-Ayrshire, and West Bend-Mallard.
