The indictment was unsealed Tuesday, in US District Court in Sioux City, against 41-year old Gary Brummel. The indictment alleges that between 2006 and 2012, Brummel distributed, received and possessed child pornography.
If convicted on all charges, Brummel faces at least 5 years imprisonment and no more than 50 years, $750,000 in fines, along with between 5 years to life of supervised release following imprisonment.
Brummel appeared Thursday, in federal court in Sioux City and was released on bond. His next appearance for trial is set for January 7, 2013.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mark Tremmel, and was investigated by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
