Spencer, IA (KICD)--A Spencer pedestrian is hit by a vehicle.
Spencer Police say 67-year-old Karen Buchholz and her husband were crossing the intersection at East 9th Street and Grand Avenue when she was struck by a 2011 Dodge Journey driven by 85-year-old Darrell McGranahan of Ruthven. McGranahan says he did not see Buchholz before striking her.
Buchholz complained of right wrist pain and was taken to Spencer Hospital by their ambulance unit with non-incapacitating injuries. McGranahan was cited for failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian.
The mishap took place shortly before 5:30 Thursday evening.
Dickens, IA (KICD)--A Ruthven man is taken to the hospital after attempting to avoid hitting a deer.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office says 41-year-old Kevin Bates was heading west in the 2500 mile of Highway 18 shortly before 8:00 Wednesday evening. A deer entered the roadway and Bates swerved onto the north shoulder to avoid hitting the deer. Bates hit the deer, and started to lose control as there were 1200 gallons of water in the tank of his 1984 Chevy C70 Fire Truck. While attempting to gain control the truck started to side slide toward the south ditch gradually spinning approximately 180 degrees as it hit the ditch embankment. The truck rolled over onto its top and came to rest facing northeast.
Bates was taken to Spencer Hospital for treatment of possible injuries.
Agencies assisting include Dickens Fire and Rescue and the Spencer Hospital.
Storm Lake, IA (KICD) -- Two Storm Lake teens are charged after a traffic stop.
Storm Lake Police made the stop Thursday afternoon, for a traffic violation. Upon talking with the vehicle occupants, the officer noticed the smell of burnt marijuana. It was determined both occupants were in possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Following further investigation, 18-year old Tyler Armstrong and 16-year old Luiz Jiminez were both charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Armstrong was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail, on a $1300 cash bond. Jiminez was processed and released to a parent, pending a court date. His charges have been forwarded to the Juvenile Court Authority.
