Melissa Wilken was sentenced on a Class D felony charge of 2nd degree theft and Operating a Motor Vehicle without Owner’s Consent.
Wilken had befriended a man from Sheldon and was staying at his house. After staying there a few days, she stole $3,000 in cash from his home and took his car without his permission. Wilken was eventually located in Spencer after she went on a spending spree at Walmart.
Wilken was sentenced to 120 days in jail for her misdemeanor offense and up to five years in prison for her felony offense. She was ordered to pay various fines, surcharges, court costs, and victim restitution.
Sheldon and Spencer Police assisted in the investigation.
