Peter Gabriel launches 'Sledgehammer' video contest

Peter Gabriel is urging fans to recreate sections of his iconic "Sledgehammer" video as part of a new competition.

The former Genesis star has set up an interactive section on his Facebook page where budding filmmakers can choose a clip from his award-winning video for the 1986 single and upload their own versions.

The entrant who attracts the most votes from other fans will receive a hi-tech boombox and autographed artwork from Gabriel, and 30 runners-up will be given signed Sledgehammer promo posters.

Gabriel has mixed memories about the filming of the animated promo, revealing it took a month to make: "It was all done the old-fashioned way, frame by frame, and there was fruit flying at me and that was fine, and there was fish, which on day two, under the light, it was very smelly."
