Sioux Center Fatal



Sioux Center, IA (KICD) -- A Hawarden man is dead after a two vehicle accident.

   The Sioux County Sheriffs Office says the accident occurred at 6:20 this (Friday) morning, at the intersection of 370th Street and Highway 75, three miles north of Sioux Center.

   A 2008 International semi tractor-trailer driven by 51-year old Mark Heimgartner of Lemars was southbound on Highway 75, when it was struck by a 1988 Toyota Camry, driven by 31-year old Lucas Ochoa-Valiente, that was westbound on 370th Street.

   Ochoa-Valiente failed to yield at the stop sign, and the collided with the semi, in the intersection.  Heimgartner was transported to Sioux Center Hospital by the Sioux Center Ambulance, with minor injuries. 

   Ochoa-Valiente was pronounced dead at the scene by the Sioux County Medical Examiner.  The International received about $40,000 in damages, while the Toyota suffered approximately $5000 in damages.  Both vehicles were considered totalled in the mishap.

  Also assisting at the scene was the Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Sioux Center Police and Fire Departments.
