Mini-Wakan Archaeological Find

Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)--Some interesting discoveries occur while performing site work for the Mini-Wakan shelter house project on the north shores of Spirit Lake.

Dan Higgenbottom with the Association of Iowa Archaeologists tells KICD News they were hired by the Iowa DNR to investigate.

Higgenbottom says they found evidence of three occupational episodes.

He says this discovery is a pretty huge deal.

Higgenbottom talks about where they go from here.

The Iowa DNR will offer this project up for bids sometime in the future with regional and possible national interest expected.
