Spencer, IA (KICD) -- Firefighters battle a field fire Friday near Spencer.
Shortly before noon, Spencer Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a standing corn field fire, east of 2106 1st Avenue East. the fire was determined to be approximately 200 feet into standing corn. Approximately 6 acres of corn was destroyed by the blaze, which was reported by Spencer Municipal Utilities workers who were investigating a power outage in the area.
The cause of the blaze was determined to be an object that had gotten into overhead power lines, creating an arc and sparks that then ignited the corn field. firefighters were on scene for about an hour and a half.
Assisting at the scene was Fostoria Fire Department, Spencer Police, and the tenant of the corn field, using a tractor and disc
Milford, IA (KICD)--Milford Firefighters are called to a field fire in Lakeville Township shortly before 1:00 Friday afternoon.
The fire was a half mile west of the intersection of 180th St and 170th Ave in a field of corn stubble and moving towards a picked bean field and some standing corn to the south and east. The Lake Park Fire Department was called for mutual aid and two area farmers arrived with tractors and disks. The fire covered approximately 20 acres, and firefighters were on scene for a little over an hour and a half.
Jackson, MN (KICD) -- A hay bale fire kept the Jackson Fire Department busy Wednesday.
The Department received the call around 5:15-pm, on a hay bale fire on the Matt Nesseth residence, just northwest of Jackson. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a stack of over 40 round hay bales on fire.
The origin of the fire was unknown, but was contained to the stack of bales. The gusty winds did not hamper the firefighters efforts to extinguish the blaze.
The bales were moved to an adjacent field by tractor so they could be extinguished. there was no dollar amount to the estimated loss of bales, and firefighters were kept on scene into the evening.
