Law Enforcement Wrap



Gillett Grove, IA (KICD)--A Spencer man suffers serious injuries following a Clay County motorcycle mishap Tuesday night.

The Clay County Sheriff says 58-year-old Mervin Halladay was heading north on M-54 on a 2002 Quarterhouse custom bike at 9:30.  Halladay lost control as he was rounding the curve to 440th Street.

Halladay was initially taken to the Spencer Hospital Emergency Room and was later flown to a Sioux Falls hospital with incapacitating injuries.  Halladay faces charges of failure to maintain control and failure to have a valid motorcycle license.  Additional charges are pending.

Spencer, IA (KICD)--Information is being sought from a Sunday morning hit and run.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office says 22-year-old Nathan Glander was heading north behind a white truck in the 3900 mile of 280th Avenue at 3:45 a.m. Sunday.  Glander went to pass the pickup and the pickup driver went to turn west onto 290th Street at which time he struck Glander's 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix in the passenger side and forced him into the ditch.  The driver of the pickup fled the scene.

Sibley, IA (KICD)--A Sibley man is hospitalized following a Saturday morning Osceola County mishap.

The Sheriff's Office says 21-year-old Logan McMartin was driving a 2001 Ford pickup, northbound on 4th Avenue, approaching the intersection of 3rd Street in Sibley shortly before 11:00 a.m.  48-year-old Stephanie Krogman of Ashton was driving a 2007 Chrysler Pacifica, eastbound on 3rd Street and failed to yield to McMartin’s vehicle and collided in the intersection.

McMartin was taken to the Osceola Community Hospital with possible injuries.  Krogman was given a citation for Failure to Yield to Vehicle on the Right.

Ashton, IA (KICD)--An Ashton man is taken to the hospital following a Sunday afternoon accident.

The Osceola County Sheriff's Office says 24-year-old Charles McKee was driving a 2001 GMC Sierra southbound on Oak Hill Avenue, north of 210th Street when the vehicle went off onto the right shoulder of the roadway.  McKee overcorrected and lost control of the pickup, entered the right ditch and struck a culvert and field driveway before flipping the truck onto its top.

McKee was taken to the Osceola Community Hospital with possible injuries.  He was given a citation for Failure to Maintain Control and Use of an Electronic Communication Device While Driving.

Sibley, IA (KICD)--A Hartley man faces a trio of charges following an Osceola County traffic stop after allegedly operating a vehicle at a high rate of speed.

After investigation Tuesday 41-year-old Clayton Ahsbahs Jr. was arrested for Reckless Driving, OWI 2nd offense, and Driving While Barred.

Ahsbahs has been released from the Osceola County Jail after posting a cash bond.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--An at large pit bull is shot by Storm Lake Police.

Upon arrival the dog was found running loose and barking at several other dogs that were fenced in the backyard of a home.  After whistling at the dog to come the pit bull approached and became aggressive towards the officer. The pit bull charged the officer and when it got within five feet of the officer the officer shot the dog with his sidearm wounding the animal.

The owner later retrieved the dog and euthanized him at a local veterinary facility. The owner advised police that the dog broke a large chain that was restraining him and the animal could no longer be restrained.

No injuries were reported to the officer or citizens in the neighborhood.

Storm Lake, IA (KICD)--A Storm Lake man is arrested following an OWI rollover.

Storm Lake Police say 24-year-old Fredy Martinez-Rodriguez was traveling westbound on West 1st Street at approximately 6:15 p.m. when he lost control of the vehicle striking the curb which caused the vehicle to roll over. 

Rodriguez escaped without injury.  He has been charged with OWI, No Drivers License, Failure to Prove Financial Liability and Failure to Maintain Control and was held in Buena Vista County Jail on a $1,900 cash bond.
