Pocahontas, IA - A Pocahontas animal shelter is being forced to take action after complaints from neighbors.

The Safe Haven Animal Shelter is home to nearly 100 animals. While the effort the shelter makes is greatly appreciated, by the city, the odors made are not. Bob Donahoo is Pocahontas City Administrator. He tells of the issue at hand...




Donahoo said as spring came, complaints from businesses, customers, and rexsidents continued to grow. Donahoo says the city attempted to bend guidelines for the shelter...



Donahoo said the shelter did temporarily remove the odors, causing the complaints, but the fix didnt last...



The shelter has now been given a date of October 1st to get rid of the problem. Donahoo did say the shelter told of a new location they were working on...



The shelter responded by saying that's just not enough time. Donahoo says the City will work with the shelter on that Oct. 1st deadline.
