Nicki Minaj to join 'American Idol' as newest judge

Rapper Nicki Minaj is set to be a judge on the upcoming season of "American Idol," according to a new report.

The "Super Bass" hitmaker is said to be joining newcomer Mariah Carey and record producer Randy Jackson on the judging panel this fall, following Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler's recent departure.

A source tells UsMagazine.com, "I'm not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it. A few more slight things to sign off on but it is happening."

If the news is true, it will explain why Minaj postponed a slew of upcoming tour dates earlier this month.

Addressing her fans as 'barbz' in a post on Twitter, she wrote, "I now have 2 (sic) start the Fall tour a bit later than originally planned... When the barbz find out 'why' I'm starting the fall tour a bit later, they will be VERY happy."

Pop star Nick Jonas is also in talks to star as a judge on the series.
