Spencer, IA: (Aug 20, 2012) - As the 20th annual Pro Farmer Midwest Crop Tour gets underway, many in the ag industry are looking to the tour for an indication of the size of this year’s corn and soybean crops.
Tour Leader Chip Flory says the tour will cover a lot of ground from Ohio to Nebraska over the next four days.
Flory says scouts randomly select a corn field along a pre-determined route and follow a precise procedure for determining yield.
Flory says the Pro Farmer tour results sometimes vary from USDA’s numbers. He explains why.
The western leg of the Pro Farmer Midwest Crop Tour will overnight in Spencer on Wednesday. The tour concludes Thursday evening in Owatana, Minnesota.
