"Beer Summit" At Iowa State Fair

Spencer, IA: (Aug 15, 2012) - Call it the Iowa State Fair “Beer Summit.”

A Spencer, Iowa resident had an opportunity to drink beer and visit one-on-one with the leader of the free world at the Iowa State Fair this week.

Greg Lear was working his volunteer shift at the Iowa Pork Producers’ Tent Monday evening when he was asked to serve Iowa pork chops to President Barak Obama and U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack.

Lear – who is president-elect of the Iowa Pork Producers Association – seized the opportunity to talk pork industry issues with the President.

More help in the form of a temporary waiver of the Renewable Fuels Standard that Lear says would free up tight corn stocks and help pork producers struggling with high feed costs.

Lear says he also sent a message to child nutrition advocate Michelle Obama via her husband.

Lear says he also spent a few minutes talking pork issues with U.S. Ag Secretary and former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack.
