PINE PLAINS, N.Y. - A New York Boy Scout leader, swimming in the Delaware River is recovering after being attached by a rabid beaver.
Normand Brousseau, 51, was swimming in eastern Pennsylvania when a beaver swam through his legs and bit him in the chest, leg, buttocks, arm, hand and torso before he managed to grab it and hold its jaws shut, the Poughkeepsie Journal reports.
One of the Boy Scouts on the trip helped pull Brousseau to shore where Scouts then used rocks to kill the animal.
Doctors confirmed the beaver had rabies. Area health officials said a rabid beaver attack is unusual.
