Spencer, IA (KICD)--Longtime Spencer Family YMCA CEO Becky LaBarre is retiring after 31 years with the organization.

LaBarre began her Y career serving as Program Director for 6 years, Operations Director for 9 years and has been in the CEO position since 1996.



Under LaBarre's tenure, the Y successfully updated, renovated and initiated a number of projects including the free weight room, cardio theatre, Strong Families (Century Club) banner program, Dvergsten Child Care Center and the new “Y” branding package just to name a few.



LaBarre is not sure what happens in the next stage of her life.



Board Chair Kellie Beneke says they are undertaking a national search for LaBarre’s replacement with a goal of having a new CEO in place by the end of the year.



LaBarre's retirement is effective at the end of the calendar year.
