Holstein, IA (KICD)--A Cherokee man is killed and four others are injured in an Ida County accident Wednesday afternoon.
The Iowa State Patrol says five vehicles were stopped in line in a road work zone on Highway 59 at 4:30 waiting for a pilot car to escort them through the one lane portion of the road work area. At this time a 2005 Freghtliner driven by 46-year-old Gordon Draskovis of Windsor, Ontario failed to stop and hit the rear of a 2003 Ford Focus leading to a chain reaction of collisions.
The driver of the Focus, 75-year-old Larry Watts, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others from Cherokee, 53-year-old Warren Kellogg and 25-year-old Mark Schleef Jr., 52-year-old Shari Shontz of Holstein, and 56-year-old Bradley Olsen of Lytton, were all taken to Cherokee Regional Hospital with injuries.
Ida County Deputies, the Iowa DOT, and Holstein Police assisted.
