Des Moines, IA (KICD)--A total of 47 community investment projects are awarded Community Development Block Grant funds by the Iowa Economic Development Authority.

The federally funded grants come through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.  Locally the city of Storm Lake is in line for $600,000 for stormwater improvements.  Sioux Center will receive $600,000 for a family crisis center.  The city of Laurens will receive $500,000 for water system improvements.  Cherokee is in line for nearly $348,000 for the rehabilitation of 10 owner-occupied single family units and Whittemore will receive over $297,000 for the rehabilitation of 8 owner-occupied single family units.

These grants are awarded based on the financial need and potential impact of the project, benefit to low- and moderate-income persons and commitment of local resources to moving the project forward.
