Spencer, IA (KICD)--A fatal accident at the North Y in north Spencer takes the life of a Sanborn woman.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was called to the intersection of Highway 71 and Highway 18 in reference to a two vehicle accident shortly after 5:00 P.M. Monday evening.  Deputies arrived to find 63-year-old Leola Vanravenswaay, trapped and unresponsive in her vehicle.  She was extricated and later pronounced deceased at the scene.

Vanravenswaay was traveling east bound on Highway 18 and entered the intersection of Highway 71.  She ventured into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by Christopher Beyerhelm of Waukee. 

Beyerhelm received minor cuts and bruises and was released from the scene.  His passenger, Kent Allen of Altoona, was taken to Spencer Hospital for observation where he was later released.
