One Direction star Zayn Malik crashes scooter at video shoot

One Direction star Zayn Malik had a lucky escape when he crashed a scooter on a video shoot.

The singer hopped on a brand new Vespa vehicle as he prepared to film a segment for the promo but the moped careered out of control and upended in a pile of gravel.

Malik was left shaken by the hair-raising incident - and on-set make-up artists used cosmetics to conceal damage to the scooter's paintwork.

He tells Celebs on Sunday magazine, "I smashed up a Vespa... I'm making this sound more glamorous than it actually was. It just span out and went crazy, ran on about two metres and hit some gravel. And it was a limited edition, worth thousands. They had to put red nail polish on it to cover the scratches."

His bandmate Liam Payne adds, "He'd never driven a moped before and he had this brand new red one we were using in a video shoot - and crashed it."
