Spencer, IA (KICD)--A Thursday afternoon house fire is traced to the basement of a Spencer home.

At 3:30 the Spencer Fire Department was called to 316 11th Street where smoke was coming from the home.  The cause of the blaze was an overheated connection that ignited surrounding wood and clothing and was quickly extinguished.  After the resident came home from work he noticed flickering lights.  The bulk of the damage was contained to the basement with some heat and smoke damage throughout the house.

A total of 22 firefighters were assisted on scene by Spencer Police and Ambulance.  No injuries were reported.  Authorities finished up in approximately two hours.
