Spencer, IA: (May 23, 2012) - Iowa biodiesel producers welcome President Barack Obama’s visit to Iowa on Thursday. They are calling on him to quickly finalize EPA’s proposal to increase biodiesel production under the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) next year.
The administration’s Office of Management & Budget (OMB) has delayed since last fall approving the EPA proposal to increase the RFS requirement for biodiesel to 1.28 billion gallons in 2013.
Bob Evans, with the National Biodiesel Board, wants to send the message that OMB needs to act on the EPA’s recommendation.
Obama’s speech will be delivered next door to a 30-million gallon REG biodiesel plant in Newton. Overall the state’s biodiesel industry supports more than 7000 jobs, according to the Iowa biodiesel industry.
