Spencer, IA (KICD)--Spencer Firefighters battle an attic blaze Wednesday.

Upon arrival at 705 East 1st Street at 5:44 p.m. smoke was coming through the roof vents of a rear addition to the home.  The roof and gable vents were removed to gain access to the attic where several buckets of blown in insulation were removed to locate the source of the fire.

The cause of the blaze was determined to be an overheated electrical connection that ignited surrounding wood and insulation.  The damage was contained to the attic area with some water damage to the kitchen below.  The resident of the home reported having some issues with fuses blowing prior to the fire.

Twenty Spencer Firefighters received assistance from Spencer Police and Ambulance.

Crews left within two hours.
