Alan Jackson to play at benefit for earthquake victims

Country music star Alan Jackson is to headline a benefit for the Mineral, Virginia locals who lost almost everything in a freak 2011 earthquake.

The singer/songwriter agreed to perform in the tiny town after a fan won a contest online and asked him to help raise cash for a rebuilding effort.

Jackson says, "Somebody in that town got on the Internet and rallied all this together and got everybody across the country to vote for this little town to win that contest to do the show; that's how it all started."

Jackson, who will play in a high school parking lot in the town on Sunday, tells ABC Radio, "It's kind of interesting that that much passion went into that and it came together. There's about 400 people that live there."

"We're gonna try to raise a little money to help 'em, and I think it's a pretty cool little story."
