Train vs Trailer Wreck



Sibley, IA (KICD) -- No injuries were reported after a train struck a gravel trailer being pulled by a tractor.

   The Osceola County Sheriff's Office said the accident occurred around 1:45 Monday afternoon.  49-year old Steven Boerhave, of Ashton, was eastbound in a Case tractor hauling a gravel trailer on 250th Street, and attempted to cross a railroad crossing west of Highway 60.

   Boerhave didn't see or hear a train before crossing the until the tractor was on the tracks.  The northbound Union Pacific train, driven by 39-year old Darren Raddatz, of St James, Minnesota struck the gravel trailer, knocking it into the north ditch onto it's top.

   The tractor and trailer sustained approximately $25,000 damage.  Boerhave was cited for Failure To Stop Cargo Vehicles at Railroad Crossing.   The locomotive received approximately $20,000 damage.

   There were no injuries reported in the accident.
