Water Brains In Iowa Great Lakes

Water Brains In Iowa Great Lakes

Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)–“Water Brains” have shown up recently in the Iowa Great Lakes.

DNR Fisheries Biologist Mike Hawkins tells KICD News that bryozoans aren’t an uncommon creature in fresh water lakes.

Hawkins says the colonies form into a large blobby critter which is where the “water brains” moniker comes from.

Hawkins says that the “water brains” do not present any threat to the public or the lakes.
