Vehicle Struck By Lightning

Milford, IA (KICD)–A vehicle was struck by lightning just before 11:00 Saturday night as it traveled northbound on Highway 71 between Milford and Arnolds Park.

The occupants of the vehicle were not injured, but the strike caused the passenger-side airbag to deploy, flattened both rear tires and rendered the vehicle inoperable. Fortunately, the passengers were in the back seat and no one was seated in the passenger seat when the airbag went off.

In addition, pieces of concrete, some as large as a baseball, were thrown several yards in all directions.

The Arnolds Park Police Department assisted the occupants of the vehicle and the Milford Police Department and Dickinson County Emergency Management provided traffic control until the DOT could make temporary repairs to the highway.
