Vechicle Falls Through Ice

Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)–Nobody was hurt after a jeep fell through the ice on Big Spirit Lake on Sunday.
DNR Conservation Officer Steve Reighard tells KICD News says the ice broke roughly 1-1 and a quarter miles straight out from the boat ramp at Marble Beach Campground in about 20 feet of water.

Reighard says he has never seen an incident like this occur.

The brothers walked halfway to shore and were picked up by snowmobilers.
With Winter Games weekend on the horizon Reighard stresses the importance of says away from points, pressure ridges, and heaves.

Reighard says it is important to have someone with you when venturing out onto the ice, some rope, ice picks that slope, and a cell phone.
