Two Rescued From Capsized Canoe

Storm Lake, IA (KICD) — Two are rescued after high winds capsized their canoe.

On Monday afternoon, the Buena Vista County Sheriffs Office was dispatched to a call of a capsized canoe, and two people in the water. The officers responded with a patrol boat northeast of Casino Beach, and found one of the persons about a quarter mile from the capsized canoe, with a life vest on. The victim was recovered and said the other person was still at the canoe.

They then recovered the other victim, and then took both back to the dock. 23-year old Rebecca Simons of Dow City, and 23-year old Tara Kerger of Logan were then treated and released by the Buena vVsta Regional Medical Center Ambulance. The canoe was recovered and had no damage. Assisting at the scene was the Storm Lake Police Department, and Buena Vista University Security.
